Frequently Asked Questions

How do I buy a gun online with Texas Guns, Inc.?

Buying a firearm online is easier than most people expect—and we’re here to help every step of the way.

You simply choose your firearm, check out online, and select a local licensed FFL dealer to receive it. We ship the firearm to that dealer, and when it arrives, you’ll complete ATF Form 4473 and the required background check at the FFL before taking it home.

Don’t have an FFL yet? No problem. We can help you find one during checkout or answer questions if this is your first time.

Good to know: Most accessories, parts, and gear (non-firearm items) can ship directly to your door where lawful.

What is an FFL and why do I need one?

An FFL (Federal Firearms Licensee) is a federally licensed dealer authorized to transfer firearms to customers.

Federal law requires firearms purchased online to be shipped to an FFL—not directly to your home. The FFL is where you complete the paperwork and background check before pickup.

If this sounds unfamiliar, that’s okay. Many of our customers are first-time buyers. Texas Guns, Inc. works with FFLs every day and can help you choose one that’s convenient and reliable.

How do FFL transfers work?

Once you place your order, we ship your firearm to the FFL you selected. When it arrives, the dealer will contact you to come in for pickup.

  • Present a valid government photo ID
  • Complete ATF Form 4473
  • Complete the required background check

After approval, the firearm is released to you. Transfer fees are set by the receiving FFL, so it’s a good idea to confirm their fee ahead of time.

If you ever have questions during the process, just reach out—we’re happy to help coordinate.

Do I need a background check?

Yes. Federal law requires a background check for firearm transfers.

The background check is completed at the FFL, not online and not by Texas Guns, Inc. This is a standard part of every legal firearm purchase.

If you have questions about eligibility or what to bring, don’t worry—we’ll help you understand what to expect so there are no surprises at pickup.

How does the NFA process work? (Suppressors, SBRs, etc.)

NFA items like suppressors and short-barreled rifles come with extra steps—but we guide you through the entire process.

After purchasing your NFA item, we help prepare and submit the appropriate ATF eForms, fingerprints, and photos. You can register as an individual or through a trust, and we’ll explain the differences so you can choose what’s right for you.

Approval times are set by the ATF and can vary. While you wait, your item is securely stored. Once approved, we’ll notify you and complete the final pickup steps.

If this is your first NFA purchase, you’re in good hands—we do this every day.

How do NFA transfers work with Texas Guns, Inc.?

If you purchase an NFA item from another dealer, it can be transferred to Texas Guns, Inc. so we can handle the paperwork and approval process with you.

We coordinate directly with the shipping dealer, receive the item, and assist with all required ATF forms. The item stays securely stored with us until approval is granted.

Once approved, you’ll complete final paperwork and take possession. We make the process as smooth and stress-free as possible.

What about shipping, delivery, and pickup?

Firearms always ship to a licensed FFL for pickup. We provide tracking once your order ships and coordinate with your selected dealer.

Non-firearm items—such as accessories, parts, and gear—can usually ship directly to your home where lawful.

If there are any location-based restrictions, we’ll let you know before anything ships. Our goal is to avoid surprises and keep everything compliant and smooth.

What happens if my background check is delayed or denied?

Background checks are handled entirely by the receiving FFL and the FBI’s NICS system. Most are approved quickly, but occasionally a check may be delayed or denied.

If your check is delayed: Delays are common and often resolve on their own. Your FFL will let you know when they receive a response and explain next steps if additional time is required.

If your check is denied: The firearm will remain with the FFL. You’ll receive information on how to appeal or follow up directly with the FBI if you believe the denial was made in error.

While Texas Guns, Inc. does not control background check outcomes, we’re always happy to explain the process and help you understand what to expect.

What if I need help, have questions, or this is my first time?

That’s exactly why we’re here.

Whether this is your first firearm, your first online purchase, or your first NFA item, Texas Guns, Inc. is happy to walk you through the process. No pressure, no judgment—just clear answers and solid guidance.
